The Greatest Gift (click on title for lyrics)
(r preston maddox)
I stand amazed and filled with wonder
At the grace I’m living under
How the Son of God could die for one like me ?
There was no fault in Him, no trace of sin
When He stood in my place
My substitute so I could be redeemed
You know that death could not restrain him
Because the grave could not retain him
He made the deaf to hear;
He made the blind man see -
But the greatest gift of all He gave to me
Sometimes hearts get torn and tattered
Chasing things that just don’t matter
Emotions high and low blow like the wind . . .
When cares and troubles try and choke us
And I start to lose my focus
There’s one place I know I can find a Friend
If I allow . . . He draws me near Him
If I am quiet, He speaks so I can hear Him
He made the cripple walk;
He made the lepers clean -
But the greatest gift of all He gave to me
We’ll never know just what it cost Him
To step down and leave behind His glory throne
To take my penalty and pay for all my sins
To suffer on that cross and die alone . . .
At the coming of the evening
When the light of day is leaving
When worries and your problems drag you down
High society or peasant -
All are welcome in His presence
Where comfort and forgiveness can be found
He can fix what you have broken
Only knock . . . the Door is always open
Doesn't matter who you are or what you do
But God's greatest gift He'll give to even you
