Jesus, Is That You ? (Live) [Click on song title for lyric]
Just a little humorous song about something a lot of us struggle with personally, and a view point that was formed from a driver’s education poster that suggested that you always imagine being followed by a police car to put you in the proper frame of mind to drive.
I heard a preacher use the same analogy one time about our daily walk; that is, what would your frame of mind be if you could imagine Jesus’ physical presence with you all of the time ?
I imagine most of us would clean up our act considerably ! And turning that magnifying glass on ourselves, do people recognize that we have been with Jesus by the way we act in public ?
Think about it - some where, some time, you may be the only 'Jesus' someone ever gets to see . . . .
I used to have a problem with my temper when I drove
And people tried to kill me with their cars out on the road
Cigarette suckin’ , cell phone talkin’, sandwich chewin’ fools . . .
How did they get a license ?
Cause they sure don’t know the rules
But yet I was convicted by my language and my mood
When some idgit ran a stop sign and almost climbed up my hood
So I thought of Sunday morning - what I heard there in the pew
And the preacher’s answer to my problem - just what I should do
He said “It serves no purpose when you growl and jump and spit
When you’re traveling down the highway all alone there as you sit
Inside your car and curse your brother, he can’t hear you anyway
I have good suggestion - listen here to what I say . . .
We know from reading scripture that although we often miss it
Heaven’s angels looking like us sometimes come by for a visit
So the driver of the next car might be sent from the Divine
Could be Jesus sittin’ in that Mustang at the next stop sign ”
Well ! That certainly made me stop and think !
Maybe I was being tested out there on the streets !
So I started looking at those drivers
With a different eye and a different attitude
So when the little old lady in front of me had no where to go
And all day to get there . . . I just smiled and said . . .
Jesus ! Is that You ?
It’s OK, I’m in no hurry, take Your time - enjoy the view !
I’m so sorry for the way I looked and what I had to say
Please forgive me ! thanks for listening,
Now You have a real nice day !
I began to be more tolerant of folks out on the road
The pressure in my veins goes down when I’m not on the goad
I tried to be forbearing, even giving courtesy
To teens who drive like demons on a homicidal spree
But when I saw a space inside a crowded parking lot
And this lady almost killed me rushing in to take that spot
Though it galled me, still I smiled and waved
(in case she was a ringer)
But she left no doubt whose child she was
By showing me her finger . . .
Jesus ! That wasn’t You !
I’m quite certain that was something
I would never see You do !
But still I’ll keep on trying just in case You happen through
Just tip Your hat and wave that way I’ll recognize it’s You
Just tip Your hat and wave- that way I’ll know it’s really You
