r preston maddox: WELCOME!
Welcome to my web site ! (scroll on down !)
If you know me and my music already I hope there is still something here to interest you that you don't already know; but if I am new to you, allow me to introduce myself and my music.
I have played a lot of different styles of music over the last almost half century. After seeing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show, I took one look at those guys playing guitars and said to myself, “I HAVE to do that !”
What followed was a typical American story; boy gets guitar, learns and steals every chord and lick he can from just about anyone and plays whenever and wherever someone will listen – from Jr. High talent shows to “Sock Hops” to fraternity and sorority house parties to bars, convention centers and stadiums. A lot of the time thinking we were better than we were, and sometimes actually better than some thought we were.
Then in the course of life I set aside such things for a period of years, playing only for my own enjoyment. Badgered into performing in church a few years later, I started writing my own music and recording some material and playing more coffee house and church oriented venues.
I'm not to be pigeon-holed into a particular genre – my material ranges from folk to country to Christian to 'Americana' to humor – I don't feel compelled to confine my writing to one particular style of music. Sometimes my 'window on the world' is tinted, sometimes it's rose-colored, and frankly, sometimes it can be warped ! But I don't write a song unless I have something to say.
I welcome the opportunity to speak to you through my compositions.
So come on in and browse . . . .
